DIE-CHESS GAMES WITH ONE OR TWO TYPE CHESS PIECES: GAMES WITH SOCIAL, RECREATIONAL, AND PEDAGOGICAL VALUES
Abstract
The die-chess games (or DC-games for short) are a collection of two-player
strategy board games that equipped with a 10×10 chess-like board, some chess pieces (no
king and no pawns), and two ordinary six-sided dice. There are ten different die-chess
games, where each of them can be considered as a chess variant and six of them have
a large variety of different cases regarding the combination and number of pieces. The
chess pieces move and capture according to the standard chess rules, but the number of
the squares (in any permissible directions) they count depends on the numbers on the
dice. The goal of the game is to move the pieces to the first rank of the opponent, and
finally, the player with more pieces on the first rank of the opponent is the winner of the
game. We will also discuss some social, recreational, Educational and pedagogical values
of die-chess games and introduce a new game, which is the sum of two games such as
backgammon and any of the die-chess games. In a nutshell, we are introducing some new
games that besides their recreational values for different age ranges, they open a new
window and provide a solid platform for academic studies in the fields of mathematics,
computer science, artificial intelligence, and game theory.
